BLUE MOON FITNESS CELEBRATES 30 YEARS IN BUSINESS AND NEW MANAGEMENT
After 25 years, industry veteran John Voskamp returns to his Omaha roots to lead Blue Moon Fitness as Chief Operating Officer.
[OMAHA, NE, August 1, 2019] – Blue Moon Fitness has two exciting announcements today as the club chain celebrates a landmark as well as welcoming the newest addition to their leadership team, John Voskamp.
Founder of Blue Moon Fitness, Joel Potter, along with Ed Connors, assumed operation of what was a failed Gold’s Gym on August 1,1989. Five years into club ownership Potter met an ambitious John Voskamp, (a student and wrestler at University of Nebraska) looking for a personal training position with the company. Although Voskamp didn’t have the qualifications Potter was looking for, he took a chance and invited him to join the team. In just six short months, Voskamp had made an incredible impression on both members and fellow team members and he was moved to a General Manager position. He stayed with the company for five years before moving out of state to continue his fitness career in Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota and Washington.
In 2011 Potter re-branded his facilities and became Blue Moon Fitness. He established the brand with a focus on making first-time exercisers and women comfortable. The brand’s mission; the club that is comfortable enough, friendly enough, and helpful enough that even people who only exercise once in a blue moon can fit in.
“The club evolved from a place where we served people who hoped to lift 300 pounds– and everyone else who wanted to come along, to a place we are doing our best to serve people who want to avoid weighing 300 pounds – and everyone else who wants to come along. I wanted to create a community where everyone feels comfortable and fits in. Whether you’re a first-time exerciser, man or woman, young or old, diabetic or athlete – we provide a comfortable atmosphere with innovative features you won’t find anywhere else in the region.”
Now as Potter prepares to celebrate his 30th anniversary, Potter will be handing the reigns off to Voskamp who will be returning to Omaha with wife, Katy, and four children to take the business to new heights.
Over the past 25 years, Voskamp has evolved as a leader within the fitness industry and has built an impressive resume of experience with some of the biggest names in fitness. He has held several executive level positions with Gold’s Gym, 24 Hour Fitness and Lift Brands, (the parent company of several boutique concepts including Snap Fitness, 9 Round Fitness and Fitness on Demand). His passion for fitness, changing lives and developing people will fit right into Blue Moon’s mission.
“I am very excited to join the Blue Moon Fitness team, with its rich history and great reputation. I look forward to working with the incredible team that Joel has assembled and growing this brand to change more lives in the communities we serve!”
All six Blue Moon Fitness locations in Omaha, Lincoln and Battle Creek, MI will be offering amazing new membership specials including enrollment for just 30 cents for the month of August. A celebratory community open house will be held August 19th – 24th with free workouts, door prizes and giveaways.
